Pearls Infrastructure Project Ltd Delhi Couture Week saw a grand opening on Tuesday with an exclusive collection of designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee greatly influenced with his love for Indian textiles and tradition.

The theme of his collection named Aparajito was Indian traditions and ethnicity. So each and everything there was purely Indian whether it was the opening with national anthem playing in the background, stage done up with antique wall clocks, tin boxes, wooden cupboards, vases and portraits or extremely flowy attires for women and rich jodhpurs for men. According to Sabya, “Actually a dedication to the Indian weaving industry.”

The collection flaunted a desirable range of Indian attires –long extremely kalidaar kurtas, lehengas, parallel style salwars and sarees, royalty long jackets paired with black jodhpurs. And dramatic stage setting doubled the ancient flavor. Models like Noyonika Chatterji, Indrani Das Gupta, Carol Gracias, Nethra Raghuraman were looking stunning in Sabya’s exquisite designs showing what Indian beauty and grace is all about.

Most of the designs were about Indian embroidery, thread work, block printing, chickan, tepchi, kantha on fabrics like khadi, cotton, velvet that handled the theme India and gave a different feel to designs. Color palette was subtle with hues of black, red, pale green and rustic orange, though some pieces saw the use of sequins as well.

Accessories too were very Indian like the designs. Women models could be seen walking with potlis, covered platform shoes, nose pins, bindi, glittery topi on their head while male models were seen wearing specs, moustaches and topis representing the true artisan form of sorts.

Front row was indeed made the one to watch out for by celebrities like Rani Mukerji with mom Krishna Mukherjee, Vidya Balan, designers Poonam Bhagat, Ritu Kumar, Anupama Dayal, Maneka Gandhi, Swapna Roy and Sabina Chopra etc. Source: TOI Image credits: AP, Cameraworx
